How PTFE Keeps Your Favorite Recreational Vehicles Safenews

It’s November, and in Michigan, that means boat season is over, but for many other parts of the county, boating is a year-round pleasure. The same is true for all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). In the warmer months, we take them off-roading, and in the winter, we’ve seen kind neighbors hooking plows to their ATVs and helping clear the driveways on their streets!

ATVs serve a number of purposes beyond off-roading for fun and good-deed-doing. They are also used by hunters, ranchers and farmers, emergency personnel, and the military. Some more commonly used types of all-terrain vehicles are:

  • Utility ATVs: These are heavier weight vehicles mainly used for working, and sometimes for hunting.
  • Sport ATVs: As lighter-weight vehicles, sport ATVs can handle lots of bumps and turns, and have very responsive engines. They may be used in racing and for general recreation.
  • Side-by-sides: As suggested by the name, these models have room for two to sit next to one another while riding. They are frequently used for casual transportation in rural communities, and customized versions are used by fire and rescue workers and the military.
  • Youth ATVs: Yes, there are even ATVs for kids – junior sized, slow rides that are simple to operate and get kids accustomed to safely managing an all-terrain vehicle at a young age.

So what is one of the most important qualities for any of these vessels or vehicles? Safety. High-performance seals are critical to keeping boats, ATVs, and other recreational vehicles running optimally. The employees at TRITEC are very aware of the need for safety within our plants, as well as the products that use our seals. Seals protect essential components (such as bearings) from damaging material and conditions, and help prevent mechanical failure. Polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE rotary lip seals, made by TRITEC, provide a higher level of protection than other types of seals, which is why they are trusted by some of the largest brands in the recreational vehicle industry.

PTFE (also commonly known as Teflon) seals are exceptionally durable. They can withstand extreme temperatures, high levels of friction and exposure to all kinds of damaging material, including various water conditions from the ocean to a swamp! This is very important, given the numerous ways boats and ATVs are used. No matter who is operating these vessels and vehicles, be it soldiers, rescue workers, or families having fun on vacation, they need to perform safely and just as they are expected to. TRITEC is very proud that our seals are part of many of these vehicles.

TRITEC’s PTFE rotary lip seals are made of customized blends of PTFE and a combination of fillers. Our team of seasoned engineers evaluates each situation and chooses the best PTFE and filler blend, based on the final application for the seal. Get in touch, and let’s see what we can do for your sealing situation.
